VIZOR INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This installation should not be difficult with basic mechanical skills. It will be helpful to review all steps before beginning. A helper will be needed for some of the steps. The VIZOR mounts around and under the rubber molding that is attached to the windshield. The only tools needed are a flexible 12” ruler for the layout of the grey plastic tensioners and wire cutters to trim the edge guard. Installation in wet or very cold conditions should be avoided.

1. Clean the entire windshield with Windex or similar. With one of the alcohol swabs, wipe an area about 12” down from the top edge of the windshield and about 12” on both sides of the rear view mirror mount. This is the area where the layout for the tensioners will need to be drawn. Opening the front doors all the way to the stops and standing on the doorsills allows access to all the areas necessary for layout and installation.

2. Using the ruler and the supplied marker, draw a short vertical line through the center of the rearview mirror mount. Make two more short vertical marks that are 9” from the centerline mark and are level with it on each side of the windshield. With the ruler held at the top of the windshield and touching the rubber molding, draw about an 8” long vertical line from the top on both side of the windshield that runs through these marks. The lines will not be exactly parallel. Place one of the tensioners (the shorter side is the bottom) on the inside of one of the vertical lines very close but not touching the rubber molding at the top of the windshield . While holding it firmly, draw a line across the front and up the inside that connects the three lines and outlines the bottom of the tensioner. This is were they will mount. The placement is critical for windshield wiper clearance. You may want to double check these measurements.

3. The 3M adhesive promoter must be used to insure a quick and permanent bond on the glass. Cut off the top close the seam and pull out about 1/8” of the sponge applicator inside. Using it like a paint brush, apply an even coat to both the areas where the tensioners were outlined. The promoter is clear and is difficult to see. Sighting with your head close to the glass makes this easier. The promoter needs to dry before installation. This may take a few minutes. It can stand after it’s dry, but avoid contamination. If needed, more promoter may be available at a local automotive paint supply.

4. With the front doors fully opened, pull away about 18” of the weather stripping on both the driver and passenger sides in the area where the VIZOR will be installed near top of the windshield. The tabs on the end of the VIZOR are split and will center on a raised metal boss on the A pillar under the glass. Look under the sides of the windshield to locate this. The VIZOR can now be installed with your helper. The convex side is the front. With your helper on one end, stretch it out over the top of the windshield. Holding it as flat as possible makes the next step much easier. Insert one end into the slot behind the windshield molding making sure the sides of the VIZOR are in the proper position and are flush with the molding or there will be contact with the door. Now the other side can be inserted into it’s slot.

5. Slide the supplied wood wedge up between the windshield and the underside of the VIZOR about 3” inside one of the vertical lines to near the top of the glass. This should leave about 3” of clearance for tensioner placement. The promoter results in an instant bond so you will need to work carefully on the following steps and may get only one chance to proper placement. Remove the backing from only the bottom of a tensioner. Holding it by the front with one hand and supporting the rear with the other hand from around and under the rear of the VIZOR. Slide the tensioner slowly along the underside of the VIZOR into position and slowly lower it onto the marked area while keeping it level with the glass and making sure it is not placed on the rubber windshield molding. It may want your helper to guide placement by standing on the doorsill and watching from under the rear of the VIZOR. Insert your fingers into the tensioner holes and press down fir mly to set the adhesive. Peel away the backing from the tensioner top and slowly pull out the wedge to lower the VIZOR onto the tensioner. Repeat for the other side. Stand on the doorsill and press down firmly on the VIZOR above the tensioner to fully seat the adhesive on both sides, paying special attention to any corners that have not made full contact with the glass. The weather stripping can now be pressed back on. Note: you may want to save the wedge for VIZOR removal if the windshield is ever damaged and needs replacement. VIZOR removal instructions are available from the VIZOR dealer. Use the extra alcohol swab to remove the excess promoter and marker from around the tensioners.

6. Installing the chrome edge molding is an attractive addition and provides protection to the front edge from road debris. Soaking it in hot water for a few minutes will make it much easier to install. The water will not negatively effect this installation. Make a reverse 45 degree cut close to one end. Spread open the end about ¼“ and press it onto the VIZOR close to the windshield molding. Using your fingers and the heel of your hand, continue to the other side and trim off the excess with a reverse cut close to the molding.
